Paphos charity bazaar to raise funds for animal welfare

‘Keep calm and love animals’

A CHARITY Christmas bazaar taking place in Paphos on Saturday aims to raise much needed funds to support the welfare of animals in the district.

The ‘Best Christmas Bazaar’ is being held at the Alexander the Great Hotel from 10am until 4pm in aid of Paphiakos and CCP animal welfare charity, which helps thousands of animals every year.  It will feature, arts, crafts and cakes and there will also be bespoke T-shirts for sale to help raise further funds for the cause. Entrance is free.

Oana Simion-Bodnaras of the animal welfare group said that many of the stallholders will attend from other towns, and that the event is ‘exclusive’.

“We wanted to make this special and we got the very best of what’s available from around the island. There will be a very good variety of products on display, all hand-made with love and care.”

She added that a special stall will also sell bespoke cat and dog t-shirts, depicting either “Keep Calm and Love Cats” or “Keep Calm and Love Dogs”.

The organisation was initially founded in 1982 as the ‘Cyprus Cat Protection (CCP) and Animal Welfare,’ and provided shelter for stray cats and dogs.

In 1994 it changed to ‘Paphiakos and CCP Animal Welfare’ with the aim of promoting and improving animal welfare throughout Cyprus.

Since then, it has grown to provide a veterinary clinic, free rescue and 24 hours emergency service, an information and complaints centre, shelter, boarding, re-homing and a successful pet travel service,

It also participates in education programmes for schools and the general public, runs a coffee shop, four charity shops and a book exchange shop.

Other stalls at the event will include: Glitterati Jewellery, Kaluco Jewellery, silver jewellery, Belle’s Cakes and Bakes, Kyrillou Eyewear, Crafty Charli, Swarovski crystals, Forever Living, With Love, Angel Cakes, Tupperware CY, Kemet Hand-Made from Egypt, Melissokypos honey products, Theobazaar Aromatherapy, wooden Christmas trees, genuine leather bags, high-end scarves and more.

Christmas music will help to get visitors in the festive mood and at 11.30am children from the Ieroi Kipoi Dance School will be performing traditional Cyprus dances. Santa will pay them a visit with some sweets as a present.
