Cabinet raises subsidy for IVF treatments

THE cabinet approved a revised subsidy scheme for infertile couples that has been expanded to benefit more people and provides for more monetary aid for in vitro fertilisations (IVF), Health Minister Giorgos Pamboridis said on Friday.

After the cabinet meeting, Pamboridis said that the revised scheme provides for an increase of the grant given to beneficiaries – couples that are entitled to free healthcare – to €2,500 from the €1,281 given up to now. The aid will be given to couples that have no children for up to three IVF attempts, and for up to two attempts for couples who have one child.

As regards couples who are not entitled to free health care in state hospitals, the monetary aid for IVFs has been raised to €1,000 from the €854 provided by the original subsidy.

An important provision, Pamboridis said, is that the age limit as regards women eligible to benefit from the scheme, has been raised from 40 years to 50.

In addition, the cabinet approved it would increase its free subsidy on gonadotropin-releasing hormone injections from 28 today to 35.
