Illegal tobacco haul

CUSTOMS officials confiscated nearly 105 kilos of illegally imported Old Holborn tobacco in Larnaca on Thursday evening.

Following a tip off, police searched a vehicle and two houses in Larnaca where they found the tobacco believed to have been illegally imported to Cyprus from Greece via a courier service.

The investigators seized a total of 104 kilos and 950 grammes of the roll-your-own tobacco, worth €22,000 in taxes, as well as a vehicle used to transport some of the tobacco.

Two suspects, a Greek Cypriot and a Greek national, were arrested in connection with the haul, appeared before the Larnaca District Court on Friday and were remanded for three days pending further investigations.
