Russian man sought in family inheritance dispute

Police are looking for the whereabouts of a 31-year-old man from Russia who allegedly, along with his 72-year-old mother, tried to cheat his stepsister out of their deceased father’s inheritance under false pretences.

The 72-year-old woman was arrested on Tuesday and was remanded on Wednesday for four days. The 31-year-old, who is believed to be in Russia, is wanted by the police.

According to the head of the Limassol CID, Ioannis Soteriadis, the case emerged earlier in the year when the 41-year-old daughter of the deceased man from his first marriage, who lives in Russia, reported that her stepmother and stepbrother had lied they were the only heirs to her father’s Cyprus inheritance.

“The man, also from Russia, was living in Cyprus and his fortune was estimated at around €1.5m,” Soteriades said. He died last year unexpectedly and had left no will.

He added that following the report, the two suspects are being investigated for conspiracy to property extortion under false pretences.
