The playful mind

Morfi gallery in Limassol will showcase the new series of paintings by Andreas Nicolaou under the name The Girl with the Fan.

The exhibition will display variations of the same theme in both small and large dimensions. The girl, protagonist of the exhibition, is sat on an armchair playing with her fan at times, and then lets it slip out of her hand at others, while her mind is cast elsewhere.

In The Girl with the Fan, the theme of romanticism and the escape from the everyday and the harshness of the modern world runs through each piece, and this is a theme that the artist has focused on for some time.

Nicolaou, who was born in Cyprus in 1966, now lives in Athens. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. He continued his formal training on a state scholarship at the School of Fine Arts in Athens from where he graduated with excellence.

He has showcased his work in 40 solo exhibitions in museums and galleries in Greece, Cyprus and elsewhere. His work can be viewed in public collections in such places as The National Gallery in Athens and in the State Collection of Contemporary Art in Nicosia.
