The Cyprus Food and Nutrition Museum in collaboration with the Cyprus Tourism Organisation is organising a grape wine escape on November 15 for anyone who enjoys roaming the country side and wants to learn about the age-old art of winemaking.
The specially designed wine trail, dubbed The Grape Escape Wine Trail, is the first of its kind, taking on different routes from those previously offered by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation.
For all the avid travellers out there, who are as thirsty for knowledge and adventure as they are for wine, the escape from just another mundane Tuesday provides a chance for an exceptional gastronomic and interactive educational experience. All participants can expect a full day of wine and grape products tasting.
The trail will set off early in the morning, at 8.30am from the CTO Information Office in Yermasoyia, Limassol. The bus, with an on-board guide ready to point out all the hidden treasures on the way, will take wine adventurers to the Commandaria Museum in Zoopigi at 9.15am, where you can get to know all about the history of the sweet wine during a guided tour and watch a film screening on wine production. The bus will then take you to Tsiakkas Winery at 11.30am where an expert oenologist will be on site to show you how to twirl the wine glass, bring it to your nose and soak-up the pleasure of wine.
Lunch (because you have to eat something with your wine) is next at Symposio traditional tavern in Pelendri, where the cultural experience will continue with some traditional Cypriot dishes during a meze meal.
After the two-hour lunch break the bus will be off again and this time the destination is the Cyprus Wine Museum in Erimi where you will have another tour and more wine. At 5.30pm the bus will take you back to the CTO office in Limassol.
The trail is addressed primarily to tourists and all guided tours will be given in English. Reservation is required as spaces are limited.
The participation fee is €25 per person, which includes museum admissions, wine tasting and lunch (drinks not included), while the transport and guide cost is subsidised by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation.
So, indulge yourself in a deluxe excursion in the wine making region of Cyprus, discover the serenity of vineyards, savour the taste of exquisite wines, enjoy a traditional meze meal at a local tavern, and trace the deep history of the island’s wines.
