Fatal crash in Paphos due to high speed (update)

Ayoung man who died in the early hours of Friday in Argaka, Paphos district, after crashing his car into a wall was speeding and not wearing a seatbelt, according to the police.

Twenty-four-year-old Andreas Andreou from Anadiou who was driving on the Pomos to Polis Chrysochous road, lost control of his double cabin vehicle mounting a pavement and hitting a wall, before coming to a standstill.

“From the collision the driver was seriously injured. He was transferred to Polis Chrisochous hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival,” said Zinon Psathides of Paphos traffic police. “From examinations carried out so far, it appears the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was travelling at a high speed,” he concluded.

The man had to be cut free from the car by the fire service before being rushed to Polis hospital.
