Limassol and Larnaca will enjoy the opening of two exhibitions on Friday.
The first involves the coming together of children from all over Limassol to create artwork that will be part of The Art of Giving exhibition and sale of children’s art.
The exhibition, from Friday to Sunday at the Lellos Art Point Gallery, follows the success of the groundbreaking first Art of Giving exhibition held in 2014 that aimed to encourage children to learn about charitable giving. This lesson continues with the upcoming exhibition by letting the children behind the artwork know that the funds raised from the sale of their pieces will go towards the One Dream One Wish foundation to support children suffering from cancer and their families.
The exhibition is not only charitable and a help to those who need it but also a celebration of friendship, love and sharing. These very fundamental ideas and practices are supported by local companies and international schools who are sponsoring the project.
At the opening of the exhibition at 7pm on Friday there will be a reception, and on Saturday you are encouraged to bring your children along to learn from other children’s examples, and also take part in the activities the gallery has arranged for them from 10am until 5pm.
The prize giving ceremony and party will bring the exhibition to a close on Sunday at 4pm when awards going to best artists in each of four age categories (5-7, 8-12, 13-15, 16-19) will be given out. All other participating children who are present for the closing party, will receive a Certificate of Merit.
The exhibition and sale is being organised by CIWOT – Cyprus International Women of Today – www.ciwot.org – and is also supported by social networking website MumsInCyprus.com.
The second exhibition is the very first solo exhibition of artist Demetris Agapiou under the name Feel the Influence.
Hosted at Apothiki 79 in Larnaca, the exhibition will display a series of drawings that bring to light a number of faces.
These faces, familiar to the artist, drawn with his unique technique and the use of intense and sometimes striking colours, capture the viewers’ gaze. Once gazes have been locked, the faces on canvas and the effect of the artist’s technique, do exactly what the title suggests – make the viewer feel the influence. This influence transfers to the viewer what the person depicted feels, sees and hears.
Each person will interpret each painting and the influence differently, as each one of us will connect each face to their own personal experiences.
Although this is true, it is the influence of friends and family that brought Agapiou to create these paintings. So going around and around in circles, we realise that we are all influenced and that how we are influenced can be projected in certain ways so the impact or inspiration we receive can be passed on but, as the artist puts it, “even if a lot of people have an influence on you, you are the last person to have an influence on yourself.”
