Eighty-year-old caught poaching ampelopoulia

GAME wardens caught an 80-year-old man illegally trapping wild birds using lime sticks and sound emitting devices in an area near Lefkara on Friday morning.

According to police, the wardens came across the man at about 8am, catching him red-handed and confiscated the device used to reproduce bird songs which attract them to the lime sticks, 97 in all, which were also taken as evidence.

The elderly poacher was taken to Lefkara police station where he was charged and released, to appear in court at a later date.
