Two men charged with poaching

Police, in cooperation, with the Game Fund charged two men in connection with poaching, illegal possession of wild birds, illegal possession of killed prey and the illegal possession of firearms, following searches carried out in two premises and homes in the communities of Prastio and Trachypedoulas, in the Paphos region.

According to police, during a search of the home of a 60-year-old man in Prastio on Friday night, a large number of wild birds and game were found in a refrigerator, as well as two guns held illegally.

Among the wild birds found were ambelopoulia, woodpeckers, a roach, partridges, turtledoves and woodpigeons.

The man was taken to the police station and, after being charged, was released.

Later, at around midnight members of the Game Fund and police searched the house and premises of a 55-year-old from Trachypedoula where they found a number of wild birds including six dead thrushes, the possession of which is illegal, and a number of bird traps as well as a Flobert shotgun.

The man was charged to be summoned at a later date.
