Bulgarian pickpockets remanded

A Bulgarian man and woman aged 27 and 35 were remanded by Limassol district court in connection with stealing from unsuspecting supermarket shoppers on Saturday.

The actions of the two suspects were recorded by the CCTV system of the Limassol supermarket in which a theft of a purse was reported to have taken place. An unknown man and woman appear to take the purse out of the complainant’s shopping trolley.

Pictures taken from the CCTV system were sent to the chain’s other supermarkets all over Cyprus with a security guard in a Nicosia outlet spotting the pair within the premises.

Police were called to the scene where they apprehended the couple, with further investigations confirming them to be Paphos residents. They were found to have €1,106.95 and US$93 in cash on them.

Police say the two also admitted to another theft of a purse in a Larnaca supermarket.

Police are investigating a case of conspiracy to commit a crime, and theft.
