Arson likely cause of car damage

A car was destroyed and another was damaged by fire in Nicosia on Saturday morning.

According to the fire service, four fire engines responded after being alerted at around 8.25am that two vehicles were in flames on the ground-floor parking of a five-storey apparent building in Kaimakli.

The fire, which was put out some 20 minutes later, began from one car and spread to the one next to it. The apartment building was evacuated as a precaution due to toxic fumes.

Following investigations by the fire service, the police and the electromechanical service concluded that arson was the likely cause.
