Six-day remand for Larnaca burglaries

LARNACA court Thursday remanded a 32-year-old man in connection with a number of burglaries committed in April and May of this year.

In requesting the remand police said that on April 9 the manager of an electrical goods shop made a report that on opening at 8am he discovered someone had broken in and gained access to drawers behind the counter, without however taking anything.

Police secured an arrest warrant for the 32-year-old after fingerprints lifted from the scene matched his and he was put on the stop list.

On April 20 the owner of two optical shops in Larnaca reported to the local CID that his shops were both broken into over the previous days. Sunglasses worth a total of €21,500 were taken.

Police ascertained the premises was violated by force through the front doors.

On May 6, Larnaca CID again received a complaint, this time from a restaurateur whose establishment was broken into sometime over the previous three days. Various drinks and three computer tablets worth a total of €1,700 were taken, as was €200 in cash.

Detectives examining the scene discovered the culprit had gained access by breaking a wooden kitchen window on the first floor of the premises after climbing up an adjacent pergola.

After evaluating CCTV footage from the scenes, it was established the 32-year-old was responsible as a tattoo on his right hand is clearly visible on the surveillance video.

The court granted police a six- day remand of the suspect.
