Local music on local ground

The three-day Fengaros music festival in Kato Drys, Larnaca, will highlight the musical talents that are grown right here.

On Friday Echo Wants Her Voice Back (led by singer/ songwriter Eleni Skarpari) will rock the stage at 8.15pm, followed by Rumba Attack at 9pm.

Echo Wants Her Voice Back is making it big in the UK right now, but they never forget their roots. Skarpari will let us into her own musical world when she sings some songs from the band’s debut album, Heart of Stone.

After that indie feel, get ready for some jazzy/ Latin vibes with Rumba Attack. In their distinctive Spanish flamenco style, the three-member band will showcase their original instrumental material, along with a selection of covers they believe perfect for music making under the light of the moon.

On Saturday the band Black Anis will give the festival a bluesy, rocky kind of feel. The five-piece band – which was formed in January this year – blends rock and the traditional blues guitar with trip-hop. A sound unlike any other is the result that can be heard when the band members play some original compositions, as well as covers.

Sunday brings to the moonlit stage Atoutaleme at 7.15pm and The Low Spark at 10pm.

Atoutaleme is a five-piece boy band that was formed in 2014. Last year the band released an LP and have been performing in venues across the island ever since. You can always depend on this band to bring an alternative rock attitude to any party.

One of the last bands to perform on Sunday will be The Low Spark, a rock trio from Nicosia, who are leading the alt-psycho-rock music scene right now.

The band’s big sound and their trippy improvisation segments will leave us all wanting more local bands to perform in the festival next year.
