Israeli teens in fight over hotel security deposit

Hotel staff at an Ayia Napa hotel allegedly beat up a group of Israeli teenagers in a heated debate over a security deposit, an Israeli news website reported on Monday.

According to an article published in Ynetnews, a group of around 30 Israeli teenagers were attacked as they were checking out of a hotel in Ayia Napa last week, after they asked for their €50 euro security deposit back.

The teenagers claimed the hotel staff refused to give the money back, and after an hour and half of arguing, they were attacked by a man holding a pool cue.

“Someone in the hotel got angry, and to the surprise of both the security and the hotel workers, he began to hit us with a pool cue. We ran outside and saw that a lot of people were wounded,” one of the teenagers told Ynetnews.

“We ran outside, scared to death. Anyone who tried to go back in to grab their bags got hit,” another said. “It was a nightmare.”

The teens said they also recorded this on video and that security and the hotel management yelled at them and started to hit them.

The hotel, which could not be reached by the Cyprus Mail on Monday for comment, was quoted by the Israeli news site as saying that the teenagers left thousands of euros of damage behind as they wrecked rooms and they also harassed other guests.

During their stay, the hotel told Ynetnews, they threw water bottles at hotel guests, and urinated in the hallways, and that they also caused a small fire in the rooms.

The hotel also said they urinated on guests’ vehicles, and that they had broken the management’s doors, pushed women, and threatened to attack them if they didn’t get their deposit back.

The news portal also published photos of the trashed hotel rooms, for which the teens said they are not responsible, as they claimed they cleaned their rooms before leaving, leaving them exactly the way they found them.
