Nicosia reinstates SMS parking payments

NICOSIA Municipality announced Friday that from July 19 people will again be able to pay for parking by simply sending an SMS message though their mobile.

SMS parking conveniently eliminates the need to pay for a parking using cash or credit card and does not require the user to register or to disclose personal information.

All drivers need to do is send their car registration details to a 4-digit number that corresponds to whatever parking area they are in. They will then receive an SMS with a receipt number, the length of time they have been parked and the parking fee, which is then added to their monthly phone bill.

Ten minutes before the parking time is up drivers will receive an SMS which will allow them to extend their parking time if they wish, and if the parking area that they are in allows it.

The service will avail anyone that parks either on a parking metre, on a street belonging to the Nicosia Municipality where there is a pay-and-display machine and public parking lots, for example the D’Avila moat, Tripoli Street and the car park at the municipal swimming pool.

For parking metres in the Municipality of Nicosia and roads with pay and display machines send an SMS to 9100, for D’Avila, Tripoli, Constanza, Podokataro, Mikonos, Grivas Dighenis, Pentadaktylos, Costis Palama and the children’s play area under Solomou Square send to 9200, for Ledra-Ariadne and Phaneromi send to 9300, for Solonos Street parking area send to 9500 and for the parking area at the Municipal Swimming Pool send to 9600.
