Customs nab cyclist with 2kg of tobacco at Ledra Palace

Customs on Saturday confiscated in total two kilos of rolling tobacco after it was found on a Turkish Cypriot man who had crossed to the government-controlled areas through the Ledra Palace check point.

According to an announcement, the man, who was on a bicycle, was stopped by a customs officer and following a search, two kilos of Old Holborn brand, was found.

The man admitted he had bought the tobacco from the north, and that he had also smuggled in the past, another 1.5 kilos of tobacco.

He was arrested on the spot, but was released after he paid a €1,600 fine.
