Not just another summer festival

Britain might have its Glastonbury festival, where thousands of people gather each year to camp out, enjoy the music and get very muddy, but we have the Xarkis festival in the village of Lofou where there is only sunshine, lots to do and a relaxing time.

For the fourth year in a row the festival turns Lofou in Limassol into a creative village with specialist workshops from July 4 to 8, and then with a festive vibe from July 8 to10 when the actual festival will take place.

The fun starts on Monday with specialist workshops in the village centre, directed mostly towards people with relative or previous experience in the subject matters presented and will continue up until Friday. During the weekend the workshops are more general and open to everyone.

The specialist workshops include design and materialisation of an architectural installation, narrative objects, music technology, live storytelling, how to perform a story, creating a common meeting space through human experiences, a shadow theatre workshop, and lots more. The more general workshops include symbolic topographies, an astrological eventing, and laughter yoga.

The different activities that make up Xarkis Festival 2016 will be unfolded in a festive atmosphere, with the climax of a vibrant music programme. Musicians from Cyprus, Greece, Africa, the Caribbean and Great Britain will meet in Lofou to amplify the festival evenings with their unique sounds.

Most of the specialist workshops have different prices, but most the weekend workshops have a charge of €10 each. The three-day music concert is charged at €20.
