Getting ready to study in the UK

The British Council will be running a clearing exhibition on Wednesday at the Hilton hotel in Nicosia, where people interested in becoming an undergraduate or postgraduate student at a UK university this autumn can get on-the-spot offers.

The exhibition, which will bring together representatives from 41 British universities, is suitable for students who have not already applied for a place at university, have declined the places offered to them or have applied but have not received a place.

The UK clearing exhibition will run from 4pm until 8pm and because the British Council wants to offer as much support as possible for upcoming university students, it will also be offering a parallel seminar entitled Get Ready for University Life. This seminar, which is free of charge, will give participants all the information they need to know in order to have a successful university life.

This year the seminar has been especially designed to help prospective students find out about the different aspects of academic life in the UK, the skills needed for an effective study and to prepare them for what to expect during their studies. The seminar will also cover teaching and learning information at UK institutions, assessment methods and information on what to expect in a lecture, a seminar, a tutorial and a workshop. Participants will also benefit from practical information on preparation for the journey, tips on travelling to the UK, organisations that can help and advise students during their stay in the UK as well as banking and accommodation information.
