Suspected purse snatcher arrested in Limassol

A 30-year-old man was arrested by Limassol police on Tuesday on suspicion of being one of two purse snatchers operating in the coastal towns in recent days.

The man, whom police said has a record, was arrested after eyewitnesses provided a description of the thief.

When questioned, the man named his alleged accomplice, a 43-year-old man, who is sought by police.

The pair are suspected of being involved in at least four cases and an attempted purse snatching executed in an identical manner.

Police said one of the suspects drove a car while the other, from the front passenger seat, snatched the purse while the vehicle was moving.

In some instances, the unsuspecting women were injured after falling to the ground while trying to prevent the theft.

In their last attempt, the purse snatchers tried to grab a 43-year-old woman’s bag on Argion Street. The woman managed to keep her bag but she had to be treated in hospital for scratches and bruises suffered when she fell.
