The matter with light is…

The new theatrical work by Cypriot director Stephanos Droussiotis concentrates on the mythical story of Prometheus. According to legend, the Titan stole fire from Mount Olympus and gave it to mankind. The Gods punished him for this by chaining him to a rock where his liver would be eaten daily by an eagle.

Three years after directing Faust at the Kypria Festival, Droussiotis now takes on this mythical story, while placing humankind at the heart of the tragic action.

Following its premiere at the Cyprus Platform, as part of the fourth small festival of Ancient Drama, the theatrical work Prometheus, Scene 1, will be performed at Theatro Dentro in Nicosia from Saturday.

Because of Prometheus’ actions, light is transformed from matter to be used as a new condition of existence.

The role of Prometheus will be performed by Prokopis Agathokleous, who will be nude for a part of the work.
