Robbers apologise to pensioners after tying them up (updated)

An elderly couple were robbed in their Limassol home early on Tuesday morning by two hooded individuals who apologised before leaving.

The two robbers turned off the Zakaki home’s power from the meter outside at 3am, forcing the 81-year-old owner to get out of bed to check what was going on.

As soon as the owner opened the door, he was attacked by the robbers, one of whom was reportedly wielding a replica pistol.

The man was pushed into the bedroom where he was tied, along with his wife, using plastic cables.

The two men demanded money and ransacked the pensioners’ home in search for valuables.

They eventually found €140 in cash. Before leaving the house, the pair untied the couple and took with them a mobile phone of little value.

The home invasion terrified the elderly woman who was offered a glass of water by the robbers. One of them said he was sorry before they left the house.

Police said they were looking for two Cypriots, aged between 25 and 30. They were described as being of normal build, between 1.70 and 1.75 metres tall.
