Ducatisti gather to mark 90th anniversary

LOCAL Ducati agent Unicars welcomed friends, partners and customers last week at the Audi Terminal in Nicosia to introduce the new models and take a look at the Ducati story in the year of its 90th anniversary.

The first 90 years of Ducati have seen some significant milestones. In 1946 – 20 years after its establishment – the company began producing motorcycles that were soon to acquire their characteristic racing nature, featuring exclusive Desmodromic timing engines, innovative design and state-of-the-art technology, as well as a strong commitment to competitive racing.

What was once just a grouping of farms and country houses is now a thriving neighbourhood in the western suburbs of Bologna. The town started growing and becoming more distinguished back in 1935, when the Cavalieri Ducati brothers, Adriano, Bruno and Marcello, began building the Ducati Factory.

Since 1946, this large factory is known as the home of the Reds of Borgo Panigale, but the company was not really born in Borgo Panigale.

The origins of Ducati are actually in the heart of Bologna where the company, Società Scientifica Radio Brevetti Ducati (Ducati’s original name), was founded on July 4th, 1926.

This important anniversary will be celebrated with a number of special events. First of all, the complete renovation of the Ducati Museum, created and opened in 1998 and visited by over 40,000 enthusiasts annually. Work is already underway and will be completed in time for WDW2016 (to be held at the Misano World Circuit ‘Marco Simoncelli’ from 1st to 3rd July), the international Ducati gathering which, every two years, reunites ‘Ducatisti’ from all over the world.

The Nicosia event showcased many of the models that have played a role in Ducati’s success through the years, coming right up to date with the latest models like Monster, Multistrada, Scrambler and Diavel.

The event was attended by the Ducati Club, the road safety organisation ‘Reaction – Youth for the Prevention’ and the Cyprus Motorcycle Federation.
