Work on Turkey water pipeline to resume May 15

WORK to transport water arriving from Turkey to the occupied Nicosia, Kioneli, Lapithou and Famagusta areas will begin on May 15, Agriculture ‘Minister’ Nazim Cavusoglu said on Friday, quoted by the Turkish Cypriot press.

The result would depend on whether the farmers’ union agreed to participate in the water management system, Havadis reported.

The water will be piped to the Panagra dam from Turkey and prices will be set within the next eight to ten days, Cavusoglu said.

The Havadis report said that despite the dam already being full having collected 11 million cubic meters in a period of seven months, the territory in the north was drying up.

Quoting a water board official from Turkey, it said there were no problems in transporting the water immediately and checks for distribution in Kyrenia, Famagusta, Morphou and  Rizokarpaso were 98 per cent complete.
