Government to send two laws back to the House

The government is to refer two laws, among the 60 voted by the last plenum before its dissolution, back to the House of Representatives ahead of next month’s parliamentary elections, it was reported on Monday.
According to CyBC, President Nicos Anastasiades is to refer two of those laws – one on paying social insurance debts in installments, and the other on lay-offs – back to the legislative body.
The same reports said that the government is to also file 15 reports connected to some of the 60 new laws, to the Supreme Court for scrutiny.In the last plenum before its dissolution, some two weeks ago, MPs approved 60 laws, some of which had been gathering dust at committees for months while others were hastily put together a few days earlier.
The legislative body was accused of sloppiness by Attorney-general Costas Clerides who predicted that many of those laws would eventually find their way to the Legal Service to determine their legality.
