Remanded for receiving stolen gold jewellery

A 54-year-old jeweller from Limassol was remanded for two days on Saturday for allegedly buying stolen jewellery.

According to police reports, the 54-year-old was arrested after a 20-year-old man, who had been arrested for a number of theft cases, claimed he had sold the jeweller, the jewellery worth €13,000 for €650.

The purchase was found recorded in the books of the jeweller, who claimed he did not know they were stolen.

The specific gold jewellery was not found at the shop and police investigators believe that it has been melted down. Police did find 150 other pieces of gold jewellery in the possession of the 54-year-old for which he could not provide a satisfactory explanation.
