DIKO contender beaten up at his home

DIKO elective contender and former AKEL member, Andreas Fantis, was attacked and beaten up in his Nicosia home on Wednesday.

After being treated at a private clinic he filed a formal complaint with police.

DIKO strongly condemned the incident taking it as an attack on the party as another aspiring MP Marios Panayiotou had his promotional posters vandalised, an announcement said.

According to reports, Fantis, who is a doctor, was visited by two men in his home asking for treatment. One claimed he had back pain and when Fantis opened the door they began beating him.

Philenews said Fantis passed out and woke up covered in blood and made his way to a private clinic.  AKEL also condemned the incident and called on authorities to investigate.
