Bounced cheques at record low

The value of bounced cheques issued in the first quarter of the year reached €367,213, a record low since 2003 when relevant data started to be recorded, it was announced on Tuesday.

According to Central Bank data, compared to the first quarter of 2015, when the total amount of bounced cheques issued was €598,041, the numbers fell by 38.6per cent, while compared to 2014, when the amount was €890,070, the reduction reached 58.7 per cent.

In March, €93,260 worth of bounced cheques were issued, which is the third lowest amount since October 2015, when the total amount of bounced cheques was €53,139, and May of the same year when the total amount was €89,037.

In the preliminary list, 100 individuals and 77 legal entities have been recorded.
