A woman trapped

The Cyprus Theatre Organisation is really not letting theatre-goes get any rest as they have started the season with performance after performance after performance. The organisation’s latest addition is I, Gogo, written and directed by Eleni Gasouka and starring Elisavet Konstantinidou.

The play – which will be performed for three nights starting on Friday at 8.30pm – has received a lot of praise and a few rounds of applause from critics since 2013, when it was first staged.
But words of praise are not the only thing that proves that this show is very much up to scratch, for her performance Konstantinidou received the Rena Vlachopoulou Award, and Gasouka won the Award for Best Contemporary Author in 2014.

As you may have guessed the action on stage revolves around Gogo who finds herself trapped in the wreckage of her car after being in a serious car crash.

Gogo, now all alone, has to figure this one out for herself. She is so used to having others solve her problems for her that this could turn out to be more than a question of life and death, it could be a matter of circumstance, timing and self-realisation.

Much like life I, Gogo is sometimes a comedy and drama at the same time, and it is – at other times – a tragedy that plays on the consequences of loneliness and depression.
So how will it all end? Will Gogo go with the fight or with the flight instinct?
