Police looking for unlucky robber

PAPHOS police are investigating two convenience store robbery attempts late on Wednesday both of which were averted by the shops’ staff. Police said that the perpetrator could be the same person in both cases.

In the first case, the 33-year old kiosk employee reported to the police that at around 11.30pm on Wednesday a man with a beanie and with his face covered with a scarf entered the shop clutching a knife and demanded the money in the cash register.

The female employee reportedly shouted at him and the would-be thief ran away throwing the knife in a nearby bin.

The perpetrator was between 15 and 20 years old, around 1.65m tall, thin, and was wearing black trousers and sweater.

The second robbery attempt happened around midnight on Wednesday in another convenience shop in the Universal area of Paphos.

According to the police, the perpetrator, who was also wearing a beanie and had his face covered with a scarf, went into the shop clutching a knife and demanded the money from cash register.  The shop’s 57-year old owner reportedly hit the perpetrator on the hand with a metal object and the would-be thief fled.

The 57-year old, described the man as thin, around 1.70cm tall, and was wearing a black jacket.
