Hotel strikes called off

WORKERS who were due to go on strike at a number of hotels have called off the strike for the time being after a meeting between the heads of employers and trade unions in the presence of Labour minister Zeta Emilianidou on Friday morning.

The labour minister said the two sides agreed to continue intensive consultations with her personal involvement to renew the collective agreement in the hotel industry which expired on December 31, 2015.

Unions, who signed a collective agreement with employers in 2013 that provided for a 15 per cent cut in workers’ overall benefits, are demanding increases in benefits in equal measure after the agreement expired.
