Ten years for thief who tied up and robbed pensioner

Limassol district court on Thursday handed down a severe sentence to a 26-year-old man, having found him guilty of a robbery dating back to November 2014.

The man was sentenced to 10 years in jail.

The crime was committed on November 19, 2014. The victim, a 68-year-old woman, later told police that perpetrators unknown to her had broken into her house, struck her and tied her to a chair while they proceeded to rob her.

The perpetrators stole jewellery from various parts in the house and from a safe.

The 26-year-old became a suspect after police obtained evidence placing him at the scene of the crime. The man was subsequently apprehended abroad on the strength of a European arrest warrant and was returned to Cyprus.
