Arrested for assault after months on the run

A 25-year-old man Trachoni, Limassol, wanted by police in connection with assaulting the 34-year-old owner of a betting parlour in Limassol last year, was arrested on Monday.

The 25-year-old, Stefanos Panaretou, is thought to have fled to Cyprus’ Turkish-occupied area for a while, before returning to his flat in the SBA.

SBA police delivered the wanted man to Cypriot authorities, and he was detained pending a remand hearing on Tuesday.

According to the police, Panaretou was one of the men who broke into the 34-year-old man’s house and beat him viciously, causing him grievous bodily harm.

In addition to assault and battery, he is suspected of conspiracy, illegal possession of a firearm, carrying a knife, and breaking and entering.
