The tales music tells

By Maria Gregoriou

The Cyrus Symphony Orchestra musicians, together with narrations by Alkis Baltas, will enchant with their telling of a fairytale by Manos Hadjidakis and songs from the children’s collection The Lazy Dragon by George Hadjipieris.

For three performances – on Wednesday in Nicosia, on Thursday in Larnaca, and in Limassol on Friday – the musicians A Bargilly on violin, N Ioannou on double bass and M Nicolaou on percussion will take us to The Island of Emotions.

The Island of Emotions by Greek composer and theorist of Greek music, Hadjidakis, is a fairytale in which happiness, sadness, knowledge, love and all the other emotions live together on an island until one day they find out that their island will sink.

After the story of the emotions on the island, Cypriot singers Doros Demosthenous and Katerina Andreou, accompanied by a children’s choir of Nicosia primary schools, will interpret ten highlights from the children’s collection of songs, The Lazy Dragon.

Since its release in 2005, children and adults have fallen in love with the characters of the songs and the voices behind their adventures.
