Kyprianou to decide ‘optimistic or pessimistic’ in Turkey

AKEL General Secretary Andros Kyprianou will be meeting on Saturday with Turkey’s Foreign Affairs Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, to discuss the Cyprus problem.

Kyprianou travelled to Istanbul after receiving an invitation from Çavuşoğlu last month. On Friday, he spoke at a panel at a university in Istanbul, where he said that Saturday’s meetings will determine whether he is optimistic or pessimistic on the Cyprus problem.

CyBC reported that Kyprianou told the panel that the positions he is going with at the meetings are the positions always held by the National Council.

The AKEL leader stated that some progress was achieved in the peace process, but there still much ground to be covered, on issues of safety, territory and properties. Kyprianou said that he is looking forward to discussing these issues with Davutoglu.
