Thieves break into Paphos home, beat up man

The home of a well-known businesman in Paphos was broken into on Tuesday in broad daylight and the three culprits beat up his 25-year-old son.

Located on Apostolos Pavlou avenue close to the local police station, it was broken into at 1:30pm through the basement, according to the son, who was home.

When the thieves realised they had been seen they beat up the son, hitting him with a metal object, police said.

They reportedly grabbed €100, a mobile phone and some clothes and quickly made their escape.

By the time the 25-year-old called for help the perpetrators were nowhere to be found. He was treated at Paphos general hospital and then allowed to go.

He told officers the culprits had their faces covered and were speaking in what to him sounded like Romanian or Bulgarian.
