DISY leader visits Israel to ‘further strengthen ties’

DISY leader and chairman of the House foreign affairs committee, Averof Neophytou was in Israel on Sunday where he met Israeli President, Reuven Rivlin, among other officials.

According to an official announcement, during meetings, both sides stressed the importance of further strengthening cooperation between Cyprus and Israel, “which are the pillars of stability in the sensitive region of the Eastern Mediterranean and are countries that share the same democratic values”.

It was also noted that the two countries were facing common challenges and asymmetrical threats such as global terrorism.

Neophytou also spoke of the prospects for energy cooperation between Cyprus and Israel, which he said was expected to contribute significantly to the energy security of Europe, but would also to create a grid of stability in the region. Particular mention was also made ​​of the tripartite cooperation between Cyprus, Israel and Greece.

he and Rivlin also exchanged views on issues of interest in relation to the wider Middle East. The Israeli president expressed his appreciation for Cyprus’ support for Israel and spoke of the new dynamic between the two countries.
