Man remanded over wife’s heart-attack death (Update)

A 46-year-old man was remanded on Thursday for eight days in connection to the death of his 46-year-old estranged wife the previous day.

The woman was found unconscious at around 5.20am on Wednesday by her colleagues at the old people’s home in Nicosia where she was working. A state pathologist called to the scene pronounced her dead.

The post mortem of the woman, carried out by state pathologist Angeliki Papetta, suggested the death had been the result of a heart attack.

But despite the autopsy’s findings, an arrest warrant was issued against the woman’s estranged husband, police spokesman Andreas Angelides said.

He was brought in for questioning after elderly people hosted at her workplace reported that they heard him and the woman argue Tuesday night.

When questioned, Angelides said, the man reportedly admitted he had pushed the 46-year old woman during their argument and that she had fallen on the ground. He also admitted that he took her mobile phone with him when he left.

Nicosia CID continues investigations.
