Rare duck at Oroklini

A rare breed of duck was found at Oroklini lake on Monday, the Larnaca Tourism Board said.

Counting three at present, the white headed ducks or Oxyura leucocephala are on the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) red list of threatened species.

This is a first for Oroklini lake, the tourism board said, stressing the importance of protecting Natura 2000 areas.

The lake benefited from an EU LIFE restoration programme between 2012 and 2014.

To see the ducks, visit the lake with a telescope or binoculars.
