Beware of nuts and raisins

THE state health services are warning the public about the Livadiotis brand of raisins and nuts on the market that have been found to contain high levels of ochratoxin A (OTA), a toxic fungal metabolite.

According to a statement released on Friday, the raisins “best before” dates range from November 13, 2016 to December 8, 2016.

The warning applies to the 200gr, 350gr and 1 kg packages.

The “Zivania mix” packages by the same company in the 150gr bag best before November 13, 2016 and December 8, 2016 also contain high levels of OTA.

Lastly, the “Premium mix” weighing 175 grams with a best before date from July 13, 2016 to August 1, 2016 have higher OTA levels than they should.

The products are packaged by G Charalambous Coffee Co. and are imported from Greece.
