A minute with Marcos Baghdatis Professional tennis player, currently ranked 46th in the world by the ATP

Where do you live?
I live with my wife and daughter in my hometown of Limassol. When I am on tour and travelling across Europe we have a base in Croatia.

Best childhood memory?
Those endless summer Sundays, spending hours at the beach with the whole family.

Most frequented restaurant and absolute favourite dish?
Can I say juicy souvlakia in pita bread? I’m pretty sure it’s one of the things that every Cypriot misses most when they are away from the island! There are of course other dishes that people have to try, like mousaka, koupepia (stuffed vine leaves), gemista (stuffed vegetables)… The list is endless! All served with a fresh village salad, nothing beats the amazing taste of Cyprus vegetables with a bit of olive oil and lemon.

What did you have for breakfast?
Egg white omelettes with veggies, with some salmon on the side as well

Would you class yourself as a day or night person? What’s your idea of the perfect night/day out?
A bit of both. I am an outdoor person, so I would say enjoying the sunset on a warm summer with friends, looking out across the sea really is a truly magical experience.

Favourite film of all time?
Remember the Titans with Denzel Washington. It was very inspirational at the time that I watched it, and I remember it to this day.

Favourite holiday destination?
I always return to Cyprus for my holidays with my family whenever I get the chance. The amazing beaches, the incredible nature and the weather… having sunshine most of the year round is something you really miss when you’re abroad!

What music are you listening to in the car at the moment?
I’m on the move quite a lot, but in the car I tend to listen to Greek music.

What is always in your fridge?
Orange juice.

Dream house: rural retreat or urban dwelling? Where would it be, what would it be like?
A peaceful and spacious country house away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

If the world is ending in 24 hours what would you do?
I would spend it with my family.

What is your greatest fear?
No fear!
