Limassol gets 5.5km park and pathway

A €14m project configuring the Garillis River in Limassol with a surrounding park spanning 5.5 km from the south to north of the city was inaugurated by Agriculture minister Nicos Kouyialis on Wednesday.

Co-financed by the European fund for regional development as part of the sustainable development and competition programme for 2007 – 2013, it is set to be a breath of fresh air for the residential areas surrounding the river.

Limassol mayor Andreas Christou said the park could serve pedestrians and cyclists, while the project in itself clamped down on pollution caused by individuals who would throw garbage and waste in the surrounding areas.

Local authorities are already in the works to try to implement projects for the 2014 – 2020 period and would be assisted by the ministry to obtain funding from the EU, Kouyialis said.
