Nurses start overtime ban

Members of the independent state nurses union PASYNO will abstain from overtime work starting Tuesday, demanding an increase in on-call allowances.
The work-to-rule action applies to nurses working in cardiology in Limassol hospital and Famagusta hospital hyperbaric department.
Earlier this month, PASYNO said the demand was based on an existing agreement for doctors in the public sector.
The union said that it could not accept different treatment and asked for a pro rata remuneration of 50 per cent.
Normal working hours in the cardiology lab are 7.30am to 3.00pm. After this time, a team, which includes nurses, are on call for urgent angiography, including weekends and holidays.
PASYNO said union members working in the hyperbaric oxygen chambers in Famagusta general hospital will also take part in the action.
