Suspected people smuggler remanded in the north

The owner of a boat carrying nine migrants from Syria was remanded for three days on Friday by a court in the north.

According to Turkish Cypriot press, the boat was spotted three nautical miles from the Ayios Amvrosios shore at 1am and was promptly arrested for “illegal entry into the territorial waters” of the breakaway state.

The boat carried nine migrants, one of which was a two month baby.
