Moldovan extradition hearing next week

THE extradition hearing of a 30-year-old Moldovan man suspected of a $3.5m fraud will begin on November 12, aiming for a speedy procedure, Paphos district court judge Panicos Michaelides said on Friday.

Following a welfare report for the suspect after his request for state legal aid, he has now been assigned to lawyer Ilias Konaris, who told court he expected the prosecution to send him the witness material on Monday.

The suspect was arrested on August 28 with an international arrest warrant issued by the U.S. in connection with a $3.5m fraud where he allegedly transferred the sum from a company to a bank in a third country.

He has since been held in custody at the Nicosia central prisons.
