Murder of Moldovan woman likely ‘a crime of passion’

Police believe the murder of a Moldovan woman in Larnaca over the weekend was a crime of passion.

The 36-year-old Moldovan woman, Daniella Rosca, who holds a Romanian passport, was found on the bedroom floor of her third-floor flat near the Mackenzie area of Larnaca.

State pathologists determined that she died from asphyxiation due to inhaling blood and a head wound.

“It looks like it was a crime of passion,” a police spokesman said.

According to the police the woman was tied up, had bruises to the face and wounds on her head. She was found by two friends who had been looking for her, still wearing clothes from Saturday evening.

When the woman did not answer their calls, they called a locksmith, with whose help they managed to get in.

Police said on Sunday night that the woman appeared to have died within the previous 12 hours.

The woman had gone out on Friday evening, returning home in the early hours of Saturday.

State pathologist Nicolas Charalambos said the murder was carried out between 9.30am and 12.30pm on Sunday.

Police believe the perpetrator was known to the victim as no signs of break-in had been found.

So far eight people who know Rosca have been questioned, police said.

The Moldovan was living permanently in Cyprus and worked as a nail technician.
