Driver swept away in Larnaca road flood

TORRENTIAL rains on Friday afternoon flooded the highway near the Rizoelia roundabout in the Koshi area, while a man was slightly injured when his car was swept away and fell on a road rail.

The 20 minute rainpour at around 2pm caused the Aradippou river to descend, 500 meters before the Rizoelia roundabout and flooded the road.

A motorist was freed by the fire service and was transferred to Larnaca hospital.

Two other cars, which had engaged in a minor accident before the rain began and were left at the scene by their owners, were swept away by the swelling river, police said.

Due to the accumulated water, police temporarily closed the road to traffic, but it was reopened when it was deemed safe. However, it is very muddy and drivers need to be especially careful.

Police also temporarily closed the road near the Kavazoglu-Mishiaouli monument, also in Koshi. It was re-opened for traffic after it was cleaned from the mud that had been accumulated.
