Taxi drivers call off Tuesday’s strike

Nicosia taxi drivers have called off a planned strike for Tuesday.

Although they announced they would be closing a series of key roads, following a meeting with police chief Zacharias Chrysostomou the Nicosia taxi association announced that he had promised to resolve their problems.

Their long standing requests are the creation of taxi ramps and abolishing the exclusive right of certain drivers to park on Costaki Pantelides and Constantinou Paleologou streets.

Nicosia mayor Constantinos Yiorkadjis is organising a meeting with all relevant authorities in order to deal with the issue, the association said.
