Alleged rapist released

POLICE on Thursday released without charging a 25-year-old man whom a Dutch woman accused of raping her.

The man had been arrested and on Wednesday was remanded for eight days by the Paphos District Court.

He had denied the accusations.

The 23-year-old woman claimed she was walking along Posidonos Avenue at around 5.30am on Sunday on her way home from a night out, when a man rode up on a moped and offered to take her.

Instead, according to the woman’s statement, he took her to a remote area and forced her to have sex with him. He also took her bag with her mobile phone and credit cards, the woman told police.

The 23-year-old woman has been examined by a forensic pathologist. The results of the examination were forwarded to police.
