UCy receives €175,000 anonymous donation

A woman who wants to remain anonymous for personal reasons has donated €175,000 to the University of Cyprus, the third time she has done so.

The latest donation follows two others for €200,000 each in the previous two years, the university announced on Tuesday, adding that the money from this donor now totals €575,000.

The authorities of the University of Cyprus said that they accept the kind gift and expressed their gratitude.

Rector Constantinos Christofides said the entire amount would go to the student welfare fund as in the previous two years.

“The University of Cyprus feels deep gratitude. Since the beginning of the economic crisis we promised that we would not lose any student due to financial problems. We did it mainly thanks to the support of a great lady who wants to remain anonymous,” he said in a statement.
